Adiona Chidzonga Scoops International Award


Zimbabwean singer Adiona Maboreke-Chidzonga recently scooped the The Best Upcoming Talent of 2017 award at the 3rd Annual African Entertainment Awards USA at a red carpet ceremony held on October 21 at the Cicely Tyson Centre in New Jersey City, New Jersey.
Adiona was nominated for The Best Upcoming Talent of 2017. The voting for the award was closed on the 16th October 2017. The former Big Brother Housemate Munya Chidzonga’s wife took the Awards ceremony by storm, winning the voting process by a massive margin of over 60%. Not satisfied with just winning an award, Adiona gave the performance of a lifetime bringing the house down with her single “Million”. Getting the crowd to their feet and chanting along the lyrics with her.
In her acceptance speech, Adiona gave thanks to God in her speech greeting an electric crowd in her native tongue of Shona. Adiona attributed her success to faith, hard work and a strong belief in oneself against all odds. She encouraged women of all walks of life to pursue their passions.
“In life you have to create your own opportunities. Success is what happens when preparation meets opportunity,” she added.
Adiona is in New York for the next two weeks filming a viral music video for the single “Million” which will be released worldwide in December.
Adiona started her career at Reps Theatre at the young age of 17 and moved on to join African Voice, a successful all female accapella quintet. In 2008, she represented the country in Mnet IDOLS East and Southern Africa and claimed 4th place. From that experience Adiona started focusing on building her solo career.
In 2013, Adiona lit up the stage with a world-class performance at the Harare International Festival of the Arts. Her performance with the very capable Nigerian funky jazz guitarist “Kunle Ayo” in the Lays Global Stage was one of the best, audiences have seen in that venue. All the more so it did feel like the sort of performance she finds herself most comfortable.
Adiona describes her brand as “Entertaining, Inspirational and World Class” and strives to live up to that promise. She says she sings for purpose, for truth and for love and draws inspiration to write songs from her own personal experiences.
